October 30, 2015
Press Release
The second GSR Nodule Exploration campaign was conducted from 01/09/2015 to 30/10/2015 in the GSR concession. The campaign focused on the acquisition of high to very high resolution geophysical imagery and physical samples inside three (3) 200 sq. kilometer areas of interest (AOI) located inside the almost 77,000 square kilometer GSR license area. These 3 areas have been pre‐selected in collaboration with our scientific partners and experts, using the historical data and the results of the 2014 GSR Cruise GSRNOD14A (backscatter signal and bathymetric data from the seabed).
The scope with the three AOI’s, combined geophysical and environmental surveys (Multibeam echo‐sounder, side‐scan sonar, photos…), executed with an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), physical samples (box‐core, multicore, CTD’s) and innovative purposely built geotechnical instrument (GraviProbe device).
